Monarch Corporation's Evergreen™ is a new community of over 200 ENERGY STAR®, LEED® for Homes 'Certified' single-family homes and townhouses built on a former brownfield site near Toronto, Ontario. From 2006 to 2010, BSC helped Monarch Corporation (a division of Taylor Wimpy plc, the world's fifth largest homebuilder) plan Canada's largest community of LEED-H certified houses. BSC assisted with the product design and technology specification and continued with continuous support during construction. The first two model homes at Evergreen were used for training of trades, construction and sales staff and extensively tested to confirm the performance level specified. Throughout construction BSC performed on-site inspections and testing as necessary to verify or improve the processes and maintain quality control. Of note on this project: the average airtightness is 2.6 ACH50 in a production setting and BSC supported Monarch's staff to continually improve the process and work to reduce this number. The project was a success for the development partners and earned special recognition from David Miller, Toronto’s Mayor: “This project shows what we can do when you start with the right principles and the right values.” Monarch Corporation was awarded 'Green Home Builder of the Year' by the Toronto home builder's association, and was awarded 'Home Builder of the Year' in 2010.
