(Heating, Cooling, Hot Water)

The Ostrander Country House is a 1,900 square foot, three bedroom, three bath single family home sited near a pond in Ostrander, Ohio, forty-five minutes northwest of Columbus. The first floor features an open layout with kitchen, dining room and living room while the second floor has two bedrooms, a shared bath and a master suite. The home uses 50% less energy for heating, cooling and hot water than a comparable home built to code at the time. Cavity and rigid insulation in the exterior wall assembly create a superior thermal enclosure while the taped rigid insulation doubles as an exterior air barrier. Sealing the drywall to the home’s wood frame creates the interior primary air barrier. A high efficiency air handler and hot water heater provide heat and hot water at 50% of the fuel cost of a conventional system, while having the same first time cost to the homeowner.
